Welcome to Road Surface Treatments Association
WHAT IS THE RSTA AND WHAT DOES IT STAND FOR?
√ QUALITY √ WORK FORCE COMPETENCE √ SAFE WORKING PRACTICES √ PROMOTION
The Road Surface Treatments Association (RSTA) was created in 2008 through the merger of the Road Surface Dressing Association, www.rsda-gb.co.uk. The High Friction Surfacing Association, www.hfsa.co.uk, and The Slurry Surfacing Contractors’ Association, www.ssca.uk.com. These associations were originally formed in 1942, 1983 and 1987 respectively and the membership ranges from large national contracting companies, Local Authority Direct Labour Organisations to small family businesses with a common aim to raise the awareness of the benefits of surfacing treatments and promote work force competence and safe working practices. Members are encouraged to join the National Highway Sector Schemes, or BBA / HAPAS.
An additional sector, The Allied Industry Sector, www.ais-gb.co.uk, was created for companies associated with surface treatments who wished to be aligned with the aims of the RSTA.
The RSTA provides the following key benefits to members:
By attending Association meetings members are afforded a unique opportunity to network with client bodies, competitors and suppliers to remain fully aware of industry trends and developments.
Through targeted PR and marketing campaigns members have their products and services promoted ‘independently’ by the RSTA.
RSTA targeted seminars and training courses provide a unique opportunity for members to communicate their product and service offer to highway authorities and highway consultancies. In addition, Members are eligible to receive a 20% discount on the delegate rate.
The RSTA are represented on all of the important industry committees dealing with the development of product standards, specifications and industry guidance. This ensures members remain fully aware of technical developments and are able to prepare well in advance of incoming regulation. The RSTA also provides members with a route for influencing decisions taken by standardisation bodies.
The RSTA is recognised by the National Highway Sector Scheme as the only route through which members operatives can obtain their endorsed CSCS cards as demanded by Sector Schemes 13a (Surface Dressing) and 13b (Slurry Surfacing).
At present there are 70 members drawn from DLOs, Contractors, Material and Equipment Suppliers.
The RSTA hold two day training courses for junior engineers and technicians covering all aspects of surface dressing / Slurry Seal design standards, one and a half day training courses covering slurry / microsurfacing, one day seminars to update experienced engineers and pre-season workshops re induct the workforce. Details of courses and seminars are mentioned in "Latest News" and also under "Products & Services".
The Association also has 3 training centres based around the country for training in surface dressing practices and plant. Full details of the training centres can be obtained via this office.
As a further assurance of a competent workforce, the RSTA Assessment Centre was set up to enable operatives to achieve NVQ Level 1 and 2 awards gained with experienced and knowledgeable Centre Assessors and Internal Verifiers. In recognition of the specialised nature of surface treatments and to ensure the integrity of the award, CSCS Experienced Worker cards for surface treatment operatives can only be issued through the RSTA, using the Centre’s “Golden Portfolio” and verified by the Centre’s Internal Verifier.
