The Road Surface Treatments Association (RSTA) has welcomed four more highway companies as members, laying down further foundations to widen its representation in the sector.

Cormac and JM Clark join Geobear and SAS Lining Services as new members.

The new companies will help the RSTA in its mission to be the trusted voice of the UK highways industry on road surface treatments solutions, helping to improve standards and training as well as effectively communicate the good work of its members as they deliver vital highway maintenance around the country. Last year, the RSTA launched a three-year strategy – the Road Ahead.

Formed in 2012 as a highways, engineering and construction specialist, Cormac is an arm’s length management organisation (ALMO), part of the Corserv group of companies that is wholly owned by Cornwall Council. Cormac provides highway and environmental design, maintenance and construction of major highway schemes and civils works. The success of its ‘arm’s length model’ has seen it adopt a wider range of services, such as facilities management and more recently community housing services. As well as Cornwall Council and other public bodies, Cormac has a portfolio of private clients, including major contractors and consulting engineers.

Commenting about membership, Jason Peel, Business Development Manager at Cormac Solutions Ltd said: “Cormac has taken a strategic decision to become a member of the RSTA as part of a new four-year plan of growth across Cornwall and Devon. Our objective is to raise our market profile, and to become more integrated within industry forums, debating increased regional infrastructure investment and advocating appropriate legislative change supplemented by our in house, best practice CPD training programmes. Cormac will be proactive in engaging with established members, and will encourage cohesion work on sector opportunities in order to demonstrate value and innovation.”

Lee Cairns, Contracts Manager, JM Clark said: “We joined RSTA to show JM Clark as a recommended brand. As well as working alongside major road contract organisations we feel being a member of the RSTA takes us to the next step in the road surfacing industry and a great platform to share our success. We feel RSTA fits with the accreditations JM Clark currently hold: FORS Gold, CHAS, Constructionline, Avetta, ”

JM Clark has built an extensive fleet serving nationwide contracts providing a full mechanical road sweeping service, bond coat spraying/joint sealant application services and an obstructive vehicle removal service, working closely alongside asphalt and road surfacing companies.

Also joining is Geobear which operates in the highways sector as a sub-contractor to Tier 1 and Tier 2’s or directly for local government. It provides a rapid solution to remediate the ground beneath flexible road surfaces and rigid slabs that are subject to subsidence. Importantly, it also reduces disruption to road users through the speed and mobility of its ground injection solutions. This means it can deliver road improvement schemes overnight and enable a road to be fully open during the daytime.

Based in Hull and with depots across the UK, SAS Lining Services Ltd offers specialist road marking application, high friction surfacing, coloured demarcation and delineation surfacing, stud installation and other services.

Speaking about the new members, Paul Boss, Chief Executive of the RSTA said: “I’m delighted to welcome all four members to the RSTA in what marks a successful start to the year for the organisation. What has pleased me the most is the type of organisations joining us, we now represent a wide-range of highway companies – right the way from those who are surface treatment contractors to highway technology companies and those providing services that help strengthen and maintain all aspects of the local and strategic road networks.”
